I became involved in DCFA after a very good friend of mine died of ovarian and breast cancer. I've worked on the Board for 22 years, and during that time I've become a breast cancer survivor and my husband recently passed away from complications of metastatic melanoma. We just can't quit when there's so much more work to be done!

It is difficult to describe the gratitude and appreciation I have for the Desert Cancer Foundation of Arizona (DCFA). Cancer has touched my life in so many ways and I am honored to serve as a DCFA non-profit family member and raise funds for cancer education and early screenings for underinsured people. In our collective battle with cancer, early detection is critical and I pray that my involvement is helping individuals and their families. DCFA is an extraordinary 501(C)3 that is committed to helping those in need and I hope that others will consider supporting DCFA financial goals. It is my honor to educate and represent the underserved and work with the DCFA and partners.

My mother passed away of lung and liver Cancer in August 31, 2000. She had turned 57 just that June. I was 29. My life completely spiraled out of control and for a year I was a shell of a person. It was by far the hardest lesson that life dealt to me. And although it was intensely difficult, it had a part in shaping me to the person that I am now. I believe that there are many others that go through the exact same thing; the loneliness and the isolation that I felt without her was all consuming. She was our families rock. I want to help, in whatever way that I can, those that are in the same situation. Whether it be lung, liver, prostate, etc. I believe that DCFA is the conduit to help.

I joined Desert Cancer of Arizona over 10 years ago because cancer touches too many lives. I wanted an organization that talks the talk and walks the walk. The organization is amazing as we have a very dedicated group of volunteers. Every nickel we raise goes to the cause. We have no executive director just a group of dedicated people. I serve or have been asked to serve on many boards but I am very passionate and proud to be on this one.

As a cancer survivor, I believe the best defense against cancer is early detection. Many in our community do not have access to preventative health screenings. The Desert Cancer Foundation of Arizona provides that access for the uninsured and underinsured in Arizona. I strongly support our mission and that is why I serve on the board.
