12 News, Scottsdale Healthcare, McDonalds and the Phoenix Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation have teamed up to provide the community with Buddy Check 12. This year 40,110 American women will die of breast cancer. Also, 1,450 men will be diagnosed and 470 men will die of breast cancer. You don't have to be one of them. The Buddy Check 12 program is simple and free. On the 12th of each month, you and your buddy remind each other to perform a breast self-exam. Buddy Check12 will send you a monthly reminder to do your Breast Self Exam via phone or e-mail that includes valuable information about medical breakthroughs and breast health.

Scottsdale Health Care has begun a new program to assist those facing the cancer experience. A cancer diagnosis comes with questions, uncertainty and concern. The Cancer Care Coordinator at the Virginia G. Piper Cancer Center is an experienced registered nurse with expertise in oncology. From the time you're diagnosed, this nurse coordinator works as a dedicated member of your cancer care team to facilitate personalized cancer care for you.

Services include:

  • Information and referrals to services and programs
  • Resource materials and education
  • Follow-up and support for you and your family
  • Help with coordinating and scheduling tests
  • Communication with your physicians, case managers and others
