About Linda Rainford

Linda RainfordLinda Rainford was a retired Kindergarten teacher, a dynamic woman who was involved in her community and the arts. She and her husband Ken took early retirement after her cancer diagnosis and moved to Chandler. She attended classes when not in chemotherapy, and read everything possible about the challenges and struggles of cancer. Linda consistently educated those around her on cancer and the opportunities it provided her for growth, spirituality and the emotional difficulties of living with cancer. Linda fought a very courageous battle against cancer. She won the battle in that she never gave in and the cancer never took her love of life, family, friends or her sense of humor. She never gave up hope.

She was actively involved in the Desert Cancer Foundation on the Advisory Board. Linda helped with the Foundation's Health Fairs by entertaining the children as they waited for their moms to be tested. She could cheer up a crying child who had just been separated from Mom with her smile. Linda passed away in 2002 after a six-year battle with stage four ovarian cancer.

The Foundation dedicated this award to Linda because of her courage to confront an ominous disease and her tenacious belief in living life to the fullest.
